MLK Day Activities Planned

On January 18, the District will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the theme, “Through the Eyes of Equality”. Students will be learn about the life and mission of Dr. King through various activities. High school students will watch a special video created by West High School students. A community celebration is planned for 7:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. High school students will share their knowledge of community heroes and efforts to making change for others. In addition, the MLK community choir will perform.

Congratulations to the following winners of the 2016 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Art Contest, “Through the Eyes of Equality”. These projects will be displayed at the Annual Freedom Fund NAACP Banquet.

High School
Debora Allard, East High – 1st place; Preston Schultz, West High- 2nd place; and Sierra Gilmore, East High – 3rd place

Middle School
Hope Dowson, East Middle – 1st place; Citlally Lara, West Middle – 2nd place; and Hang Nguyen, West Middle – 3rd place.

Ashley Arrowood, Hunt – 1st place; Sophia Dreeszen, Sunnyside – 2nd place; and Jersie Cherkas, Crescent Park – 3rd place.

Irving Elementary, Bryant Elementary, and Clark Elementary submitted a collective building art project. A sampling of these projects will also be displayed.
