District Announces Assignment Changes for Principals

Larry D. Williams announced today three assignment changes for
principals in the district.
John Beeck, principal at Washington Elementary School, will become
the district assessment coordinator. Beeck will replace Pete
Garlinghouse, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Beeck
will be responsible for working with state agencies regarding
district testing, interpretation and data submission of testing. He
will also be responsible for facilitating and guiding the district
comprehensive school improvement plan.
Beeck joined the district in 1988 as a fifth grade teacher at
Washington Elementary School. He became a principal at Joy Elementary
School in 1994. He has served as a principal at Joy, Roosevelt,
Sunnyside, Whittier and Washington Elementary Schools. Beeck has a
bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Morningside College
and a master’ degree in education administration and supervision
from the University of Northern Iowa.
Dawn Stansbury, principal of Joy Elementary School, will serve as
principal of Washington Elementary School starting with the 2008-09
school year. She taught in South Sioux City and then at Sunnyside
Elementary School for four years before coming principal at Joy
Elementary School three years ago. Stansbury has a bachelor’s
degree in elementary education from Morningside College and a
master’s degree in elementary administration from the University of
South Dakota. She is in the process of obtaining a doctorate in
school district superintendency from the University of South
Dakota.
Mary Motz, principal of Longfellow Elementary School, will serve as principal of both Longfellow and Joy Elementary Schools starting with the 2008-09 school year. Motz taught in parochial schools for ten years before joining the Sioux City Community Schools in 1989. She taught upper elementary and TAG before becoming principal at Longfellow in 2003. Motz has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education Briar Cliff University. She has a master’ degree in elementary education from Morningside College and a master’s degree in administration from Wayne State College.
