Plato updates for 2008-09 school year

by Layne Henn

Many have asked so I thought this would be a good place for me to post an update of the status of PLATO for the 08-09 school year.

I have completed the school list updates for all the schools as of 8-25-08.  The group lists are now current for teachers who want to update their class list in both Main and Extended.
··I did not update the Middle School lists in Plato Main. If you are a MS teacher and would like these updated, please e-mail Layne.

If you are creating a NEW class, be sure to follow the naming structure that is found HERE.
-If you are not using the correct naming configuration, your class may get deleted!!

If you find there are students in your school list that are no longer there, please send me a list and I can delete them.  This helps to keep the data more streamlined and allows reports to run more efficiently.

Silencing Rumors

Plato Web Leaning Network, which we have had for 5 years now in our district is continuing to be used in all grades throughout the district.  We will NOT be getting rid of this PLATO. We own this product and host it on our servers.  We have Plato Main, which is content focused on grade levels from K-7.  We also have Plato Extended which is content focused from grades 5-12.  There is some overlap.  However, student records are different.  For example, student A has a record of completed courseware in Main, but that will not be the same as the completed courseware record if that student is also using Extended.

Plato is not available outside of the school network.  Neither students or teachers can access Plato from home.  You must be on the school district computer network in order to use Plato.

PLE- Last year we piloted a product called Plato PLE (Plato Learning Environment). It was a product that was used mainly for credit recovery in the high schools and was online with a class structure.  This is not going to be purchased by our district.

If you have more questions about Plato Web Learning Network or would like some training on using this product in your classroom, contact Layne Henn by email at hennl@sioux-city.k12.ia.us
