Parent Workshops Planned

The Sioux City Community School District, in partnership with the Northwest Area Education Agency, will host parent workshops in February to assist parents in their child’s education. The February workshops focus on “How to Help with Test Taking and Motivation”, and the second in a series held throughout the school year.
According to Alison Benson, director of communications for the district, the workshops are the result of a district survey conducted in the fall of 2008. “There was an overwhelming response from parents regarding the willingness to attend workshops if offered. The district then partnered with the Northwest Area Education Agency to develop a series of workshops based on the top parent choices.”
"Our staff is continually building capacity in the realm of professional development, curriculum strategies and classroom management so that this can be shared with parents and teachers. We are excited to partner with the Sioux City Community School District to provide workshops that are designed to equip parents with skills and resources for helping their children succeed in the classroom," said Tim Grieves, chief administrator of Northwest Area Education Agency.
The workshops are available to all families in the Sioux City Community School District. The first series will be held at each of the three middle schools at 6:30 p.m. in the media center.

• February 15 at West Middle School at 3301 W.19th St.
• February 22 at North Middle School at 2101 Outer Drive North
