As part of an ongoing effort to recruit and retain highly-qualified staff, the Sioux City Community School District is offering several hiring incentives.

New certified full-time teachers who are hired on or after January 1, 2022, will receive a $5,000 hiring bonus split equally over the course of two years.

  • For example, if a certified full-time teacher is hired on 7-19-22, they will receive $2,500 in the fall of 2022 and $2,500 in the fall of 2023.

New certified full-time teachers who apply for hard-to-fill positions may qualify for an additional hiring bonus based on experience. Hard-to-fill areas may include agriculture, construction, dual language, FACS, engineering, English as a second language, industrial arts, Spanish, and special education. Former Sioux City Community School District teachers and permanent substitute teachers who are hired on or after January 1, 2022, will receive a one-time $2,500 bonus.

New substitute teachers receive a one-time retention bonus of $100 after 10 consecutive substitute jobs. In addition, the substitute authorization course through the AEA ($125) will be reimbursed after 20 consecutive substitute jobs (tier 1) and the substitute authorization license ($172) will be reimbursed after 50 consecutive substitute jobs (tier 2).

Certain SCESPA para educators, food service workers, and bus drivers who are hired on or after January 1, 2022, will receive a $1,000 hiring bonus. This bonus is divided into three payments over the course of one school year.

  • For example, if a qualified SCESPA para educator, food service worker, or bus driver is hired on 7-19-22, they will receive $500 in the fall of 2022, $250 in December of 2022, and $250 in the spring of 2023.
