Koch Named 2019 IASC High School Administrator of the Year
BJ Koch, Sioux City East High School assistant principal and activities director, has been named the 2019 Iowa Association of Student Councils (IASC) High School Administrator of the Year, sponsored by Iowa High School Athletic Association.
“After being nominated by your student council adviser and students, you were selected from a very talented field of candidates. Your many contributions as a supporter of student council and one who cares about our state’s youth qualify you for this award,” said IASC Executive Vicki Gray Carstens.
Koch will be recognized at the Iowa Student Leadership Conference in Des Moines on Monday, October 28, 2019.
The East High student council nominated Koch. The nomination letter, submitted by Michelle Pick, the East High student council advisor, said, “He believes in his advisors, coaches, and student leaders, and encourages them to take the reins of their own programs, to use their resources to the maximum, and to do whatever it takes to encourage student growth and leadership, and to further foster a positive school climate.”
Koch has been an assistant principal and activities director at East High School since 2007. His education career began as a teacher at the Boys and Girls Home in Sioux City. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from Morningside College and a master’s degree in education administration from the University of South Dakota.
Iowa Association of Student Councils is a non-profit student leadership organization that promotes service, citizenship, character, integrity, and academics. IASC provides leadership training, resources, and networking for advisers and students throughout Iowa.
