As a community service project over the past 24 years, sixth graders from East Middle School have sold reindeer candy canes to raise money to help families in need and to buy holiday gifts for children from these families. Over these past 24 years, we have sold 223,075 candy cane reindeer and have helped 6,205 people.
Last year, the sixth graders sold 12,364 reindeer. With the proceeds from the sales in 2014, gifts for 150 children were purchased, $500 was donated to the Gospel Mission, $500 was given to the Food Bank, and 100 canes were given to the Ronald McDonald House.
This year, all three teams of 6th grade students will once again be involved in this community service project. We feel that it is a good learning experience for all the sixth grade students.
Sixth grade students will begin taking orders on Friday, November 13. The cost of one candy cane reindeer will be 50 cents. The last day that the students can take orders will be Sunday, November 29, because the last turn in date will be Monday, November 30.
Thanks for the help and support!
