Sioux City Schools honoring pair of female trail-blazers leading school board
Sioux City Schools are honoring a pair of female trailblazers in the district during “Women’s History Month” this year.
For the first time ever, the President and Vice-President of the Sioux City School Board are women.
Perla Alarcon-Flory and Monique Scarlett are the first women to hold their positions and the district says it wants to highlight the work they’re doing.
“We are here to learn and hear and to listen and to be able to put together all of the pieces of that puzzle in order to create a better learning environment for all of the kids in the district,” said Alarcon-Flory. “And so to be able to offer that perspective and that diversity is something that is really important to us.”
Both say they hope to serve as role models for young girls and women in the community.
