Board Policy Committee Minutes – September 12, 2019

The Board Policy Committee (BPC) met on Thursday September 12, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

Committee Members Present: Dr. Paul Gausman, Perla Alarcon-Flory, David Gleiser, and Cyndi Lloyd

Committee Members Absent: Jeremy Saint

Guests: Kim Neal, Dr. Kim Buryanek, John Pritchard, and Dr. Brian Burnight

BP 602.10 – Talented & Gifted Education: Kim Neal and Dr. Kim Buryanek

Conclusion: BP 602.10 was reviewed and edited by Kim Neal, Dr. Kim Buryanek, and Attorney
Maureen Heffernan. The Committee has reviewed this policy a number of times but recommended
that Ms. Neal create an AR to accompany the policy. Revisions to BP 602.10 were approved as
presented and will be brought forward to the full Board for first reading on Monday, September 23,
2019.

AR 602.10 – Talented & Gifted Education: Kim Neal and Dr. Kim Buryanek

Conclusion: Kim Neal presented a newly created AR to BP 602.10. Ms. Neal believes this AR
accompanies the policy well. AR 602.10 was also reviewed and edited by Dr. Kim Buryanek and
Attorney Maureen Heffernan. Ms. Neal shared a “flow chart” that explains the identification process.
The Committee requested the flow chart be made into an “Exhibit” (602.10-E). AR 602.10 was
approved as written and will be brought to the full Board for first reading on Monday, September 23, 2019.

BP 664 – Donations of New or Used Computer Hardware: John Pritchard

Conclusion: BP 664 was reviewed and edited by John Pritchard and Attorney Maureen Heffernan.
Revisions to BP 664 included changing the title to Technology Donation. BP 664 was approved as
presented and will be brought forward to the full Board for first reading on Monday, September 23,
2019.

AR 664 – Computer Hardware Donation: John Pritchard

Conclusion: AR 664 was reviewed and edited by John Pritchard and Attorney Maureen Heffernan.
The Committee requested that the table noted at the bottom of page 2 Minimum Specs… be removed. Revisions to AR 664 were approved as presented and will be included in the Informational Update once the policy has been approved by the Board and then updated on the District’s website.

The form originally included in the AR will be made into an “Exhibit” (664-E) and placed on the
District’s website once the policy has been approved by the Board.

BP 665 – Donations of Musical Instruments: Dr. Brian Burnight

Conclusion: BP 665 was reviewed and edited by Dr. Burnight and Attorney Maureen Heffernan.
Revisions to BP 665 were approved as presented and will be brought forward to the full Board for the first reading on Monday, September 23, 2019.

AR 665 – Donations of Musical Instruments: Dr. Brian Burnight

Conclusion: AR 665 was reviewed and edited by Dr. Burnight and Attorney Maureen Heffernan.
Revisions to AR 665 were approved as presented and will be included in the Informational Update
once the policy has been approved by the Board and then updated on the District’s website.

Revisions to 664-E were also made and approved by the Committee. 664-E will be updated on the
District’s website once the policy has been approved by the Board.

The next Board Policy Committee meeting is September 30, 2019.
