Board Policy Committee Minutes – September 30, 2019

The Board Policy Committee (BPC) met September 30, 2019, at 4:30 p.m.

Committee Members Present: Dr. Paul Gausman, Perla Alarcon-Flory (via phone), Jeremy Saint and
Cyndi Lloyd

Committee Members Absent: David Gleiser

Fahrendholz, Mandie Mayo, Dr. Rita Vannatta, Jen Gomez, and Mickey Nelson

BP 181.11 – Electronic Equipment and Services Usage: John Pritchard

Conclusion: BP 181.11 was reviewed and edited by John Pritchard and Attorney Maureen Heffernan.
Revisions to BP 181.11 were approved as presented and will be brought forward to the full Board for
first reading on Monday, October 14, 2019.

RESOLUTION: Athletic Classification Equity: Jim Vanderloo, B.J. Koch, Chris Koch and Allan Pace

Conclusion: Resolution was created by Mr. Vanderloo and the three high school AD’s. Resolution
was reviewed and edited by Attorney Maureen Heffernan. Resolution was approved as presented
and will be brought forward to the full Board for approval on Monday, October 14, 2019. Mr. Saint
stated this item will be read into the record and voted on separately during the October 14, 2019
Board meeting.

BP 709.5 – Student Conduct on School Transportation: Brian Fahrendholz

Conclusion: BP 709.5 was reviewed and edited by Brian Fahrendholz and Attorney Maureen
Heffernan. Revisions to BP 709.5 were approved as presented and will be brought forward to the full Board for the first reading on Monday, October 14, 2019.

AR 709.5 – Student Conduct on School Transportation: Brian Fahrendholz

Conclusion: AR 709.5 was reviewed and edited by Brian Fahrendholz and Attorney Maureen
Heffernan. Revisions to AR 709.5 were approved as presented and will be included in the next
Informational Update. Once the policy has been approved by the Board, it will be updated on the
District’s website.

BP 709.7 – Use of Monitoring Systems on School Buses: Brian Fahrendholz

Conclusion: BP 709.7 was reviewed and edited by Brian Fahrendholz and Attorney Maureen
Heffernan. Revisions to BP 709.7 were approved as presented and will be brought forward to the full Board for the first reading on Monday, October 14, 2019.

BP 1001.0 – Communications / Public Information Program: Mandie Mayo

Conclusion: BP 1001.0 was reviewed by Mandie Mayo and Attorney Maureen Heffernan and both
recommend deletion of this policy. Deletion of BP 1001.0 was approved and will be brought forward
to the full Board for first reading on Monday, October 14, 2019.

BP 1001.10 – School-Community Groups: Mandie Mayo

Conclusion: BP 1001.10 was reviewed and edited by Mandie Mayo and Attorney Maureen Heffernan. The Sioux City Public Schools Foundation was added to policy. Revisions to BP 1001.10 were approved as edited and will be brought forward to the full Board for first reading on Monday, October 14, 2019.

BP 402.8 – Vacations: Dr. Rita Vannatta

Conclusion: BP 402.8 was reviewed and edited by Dr. Vannatta and Attorney Maureen Heffernan.
Revisions to BP 402.8 were approved as presented and will be brought forward to the full Board for
first reading on Monday, October 14, 2019.

BP 404.9 – Religious Holidays: Dr. Rita Vannatta

Conclusion: BP 404.9 was reviewed and edited by Dr. Vannatta and Attorney Maureen Heffernan.
Revisions to BP 404.9 were approved as presented and will be brought forward to the full Board for
first reading on Monday, October 14, 2019.

BP 604.1 – Student Guidance and Counseling Program: Jen Gomez

Conclusion: BP 604.1 was reviewed and edited by Jen Gomez and Attorney Maureen Heffernan. Mr.
Saint made additional edits to the policy. Revisions to BP 604.1 were approved as edited and will be
brought forward to the full Board for the first reading on Monday, October 14, 2019.

The next Board Policy Committee meeting is October 21, 2019.
