School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) and Educational Equity Committee (EEC) Report 20-21

Dr. Kim Buryanek, Dr. Jen Gomez, Mr. Tito Parker, and Mr. Daniel Harder presented the
School Improvement Advisory Committee and Educational Equity Committee Report for
2020-2021. In a collaborative effort, the SIAC and EEC committees analyzed and discussed
data related to assessment results, behavior, and district demographics. Committee
members from both committees have been involved in small-group and large-group
discussions and data analysis at their respective meetings since the beginning of the 2020-21
school year. Members of the SIAC committee include parents, community members,
students, board members, and staff. Members of the EEC committee include parents,
community members, board members, and staff.

After reviewing and analyzing data, the committees provided recommendations that focus on
student achievement and address inequity. The recommendations range from more support
for ELL students, to increasing cultural awareness through professional development and
adjustments to hiring practices. The recommendations may play an important role in the
development of the District’s next strategic plan. The process for planning the next strategic
plan will begin in the spring 2021.

Committee members engaged in discussion regarding how SIAC and EEC came to the
suggested recommendations. The data each committee reviewed will be included in a future
Informational Update provided by Dr. Paul Gausman, to all members of the School Board.
The full report will be shared at the February 22 School Board Meeting.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at noon in the ESC Board
