Educational Equity Committee Meeting Minutes – January 8, 2021

The Educational Equity Committee met on Friday, January 8, 2021 at the ESC Board Room.

Committee Members Present: Director Juline Albert, Bernie Hess (virtual), Karen Mackey, Shana Michalski, Tito Parker, and Joe Riker (virtual.)

District Employees and School Board Directors Present: Stephanie Alcaraz, Dr. Kim Buryanek, Lori Gentry, Dr. Jen Gomez, LaShawna Moyle, Amber Sackmann, and Dulce Sanchez.

Equity Data Dig

The Education Equity Committee (EEC) reviewed two sets: Advanced Placement Course Enrollment Data and Alternative School Placement Data.

The EEC used the Examining Data Protocol, which includes identifying patterns/trends, surprising/unexpected data, positive and concerning data points, and questions.

The EEC participated in an activity to identify the top data points of concern that were reviewed over the past five months for the District to address.

Future Status of Committee

Dr. Gomez and Dr. Buryanek announced the merge of the School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) and the Education Equity Committee (EEC) per Board President Alacorn-Flory’s recommendation.

Board President Alarcon-Flory explained her recommendation and engaged in a discussion with the Educational Equity Committee members regarding the pros and cons of merging the two committees. Board President Alacorn-Flory will notify Dr. Buryanek and Dr. Gomez of the final decision.
