Educational Equity Committee Meeting Minutes – November 12, 2021

The Educational Equity Committee met on Friday, October 12, 2021 at the ESC Room 102.

Committee Members Present: Tito Parker, Karen Mackey, Don Dew, Shana Michalski, Rhonda McGarry, Jacob Harlan, Laura Mesz, Sherry Martin, Kristine Bata

District Employees and School Board Directors Present: Dr. Buryanek, June Mikkelson, Joe Riker, Sarah Berntson, Victor Galindo, Stephanie Alcaraz, Amber Sackmann, Lori Gentry and Lizzy Día

2022-23 High School Course Guide

Jim Vanderloo introduced himself as the Director of Secondary Education. He presented the 2022-23 High School Course Guide and shared the different classes and college courses that are available to our students. Kim Neal, the Director of Learning Supports also shared the new Life Skills course

Strategic Plan Progress

Dr. Buryanek reviewed the Strategic Plan development. Hanover Research has provided a Strategic Priorities Diagnostic Survey offered to district staff for their participation. She went over a brief overview of the following steps upon receiving the results from the survey and highlighting the development of the plan.

Hiring Practices/Marketing Recommendations

ELL tutor positions in the school district increased by nine.

HR and Communications are working together on a campaign for teachers – hoping to connect with people of diverse ethnic backgrounds.

  • Going out to job fairs
  • Marketing, ads in Hulu, Netflix
  • Working with several colleges/universities
