Virtual School Naming

Mandie Mayo shared a brief update about the Board Policy Committee meeting held earlier this week. Because of the Board Policy Committee’s decision to leave policy 971.1 as is, the virtual school naming process must be revisited.

Mrs. Mayo provided a list of names submitted through Thought Exchange. The committee discussed variations of names, marketing strategies and potential hurdles with Internet searches for the suggested names. Each committee member was asked to vote for their top three virtual school names from the list provided by Mrs. Mayo. The list narrowed to a “top five” and committee members voted again for their first choice out of the five names. After vetting the names, SIAC’s top three choices are:

  • B.A.S.E. Virtual Academy (Believe. Achieve. Succeed. Educate.)
  • Compass Rose Virtual Academy
  • V.I.B.E. Academy (Virtual Institute for Brighter Education)

The top three names will be presented to the Board Student Achievement Committee and the School Board at future meetings.

Other Items of Discussion

Dr. Kim Buryanek shared an update on the strategic plan for the District. Hanover Research is in the
process of reviewing the same data SIAC and the Education Equity Committee reviewed. Hanover
Research is scheduled to have a full analysis in June 2021. Dr. Buryanek is hopeful Hanover Research may have some information for the committee to discuss at the next meeting. Dr. Buryanek plans to meet with SIAC leadership before the next meeting to discuss the next steps.
