Sioux City Community School District FCCLA Students

Sioux City, Iowa – Students in the Sioux City Community Schools chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) excelled at the State Leadership Conference, held in Cedar Rapids earlier this month.

An integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education curriculum, FCCLA is a career and technical student organization that began in 1945. Through participation in competitive events, community service opportunities, and student leadership, members develop real world skills, explore career pathways, and become college and career ready.

The following students participated in the recent FCCLA State Leadership Conference, under advisors Kelsey Miller and Wendy Bryce:

Adam Embrock (North High School): National qualifier and gold medal finalist in Culinary Arts (Embrock will be competing at nationals in Seattle, Washington, in the summer of 2024.)

Derek Folchert (North High School): Elected state officer of national programs for FCCLA and gold medal finalist for student engagement and The Finding Project presentation.

Paislie Tran (North High School): Gold medal finalist for student engagement and The Finding Project presentation.

Jesstina Henry (North High School): Bronze medal for baking and pastry and participant in the cake decorating challenge.

Max Moon (North High School): Second place finisher for fashion sketch and participant in the $20 clothing challenge.

Max Sands (West High School): Second place tie in the $20 fashion challenge.

Ashley Moreno (West High School): Second place tie in the $20 fashion challenge.

Nissi Ramos (West High School): Participant in the cake decorating challenge.

Dakoda Jepsen (East High School): Second place finisher for the food truck challenge.

Amber Wescott (East High School): Participant in the food truck challenge.

Carolina Mata Arellano (East High School): Participant in the food truck challenge.
