Starting kindergarten is a major milestone for children and parents. Rest assured; the Sioux City Community School District is ready to make the transition a memorable experience for every family.
Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program is offered Monday-Friday and is designed for students who are of kindergarten age but may need an extra year of development before they are ready for all-day kindergarten. For the 2023-24 school year, transitional kindergarten will be offered at Liberty Elementary, Nodland Elementary, Perry Creek Elementary, Spalding Park Environmental Sciences Elementary, and Unity Elementary.
The SCCSD also offers all-day kindergarten at each of our elementary schools. Students will master reading, writing, math, science, and related arts skills that serve as the foundation of their learning for years to come. Student-focused cognitive and social development is also a part of each day.
If your student will be 5 years old on or before September 15th and will be attending Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or Kindergarten in the 2023-24 school year, you must complete pre-registration by September 1, 2023.
Once you complete online registration, the District will contact you with everything you need for registration day.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten Registration Days are a great way to get familiar with your child’s new school. Families can meet teachers, see the classroom and learn what to expect in the year ahead.
The State of Iowa requires all children entering kindergarten to have at least one blood lead test before the child is 6 years of age. The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) manages this program. Lead poisoning is a serious problem in Iowa. The main source of childhood lead poisoning is lead-based paint, commonly found in homes built before 1978. Other sources of lead can also poison children.
