Sioux City, IA – Headquarters Air Force Junior ROTC is proud to announce that it has opened the application window for the 2022 Air Force Chief of Staff Private Pilot Scholarship Program commonly called AFJROTC Flight Academy.

The Flight Academy scholarship program is an Air Force level initiative in collaboration with the commercial aviation industry to address the national civilian and military pilot shortage. The private pilot scholarship program allows JROTC cadets who are aspiring young aviators to get their Private Pilot’s Certification (a $20,000 value) and a college transcript, at no cost, during an eight-week summer course at partner universities. Those who participate do not incur a military commitment.

Last summer, over 300 cadets from across the country received the scholarship with about 80% successfully earning their Private Pilot Certificate. Cadets are competitively selected based on Aviation Qualification Test scores, endorsements, physical fitness, extracurricular and aviation experience.

Motivated JROTC cadets with an interest in aviation and will be at least 17 years old by July 2022 are encouraged to contact their JROTC instructor to begin the application process.
