The Sioux City Community School District plans to offer one session of driver education class this summer at all three of its high schools. The classes will start on Tuesday June 2nd, 2026 running for 4.5 weeks, finishing on Thursday July 3rd, 2026. Classroom and driving sessions will be held Monday through Friday. Driving lessons will begin as early as 7 am and end by 7 pm. Some Saturday driving sessions may occur to ensure students finish by July 3rd, 2026.
Students will have an opportunity to select preferred driving and classroom sessions after they are enrolled in the course. Schedules and class time will be assigned after all request have been received.
Dates may change due to weather.
Registration for summer traffic education will begin on Monday, March 30th, 2026 at 7 pm with the deadline for all registrations ending on Friday April 3rd, 2026 or once all spots at each high school are filled. Spots are filled on a first come first serve basis. Students may only sign up at one high school. Anyone signing up at multiple schools will be removed from all lists. Cost for the class will be $385. (School fee waivers are accepted for reduced price of $175 or free). STUDENTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA BEFORE REGISTERING:
The student must be at least 14 years of age.
The student must have a valid Iowa learner’s permit before trying to register. (Spots will not be held or granted to any student not having a permit before registering).
A complete deposit for the class fee must be made to the high school you are registering at in order to be completely registered and paid in full before the course starts.
Spots will not be held for students who do not meet guidelines.
Registration forms must be filled out online only and will be processed in the order in which they were received. Our bookkeepers will call to process payment. If the class fills, those remaining will receive notification that they will be held on the waiting list for that school. Future sessions are anticipated during the Fall of 2026 at each of the high schools.

Registration is limited to 24 available spaces at each of the high schools. Enrollment will be accepted, based on the date and order in which registration forms are received and time stamped, until capacity is met. Students placed on a waiting list are not guaranteed a spot in any class.
