Media Center Materials Removal

Code Number: 604.74

It shall be the Board’s policy to provide for the regular review, removal, and replacement of library materials as set forth in Board Policy 604.7 Library Programs.

Teacher librarians may remove materials no longer deemed to have current educational value from District libraries. Removal of items will be at the discretion of the teacher librarians, guided by Board Policy 604.71 Library Materials.

The items identified for removal will then be reviewed to determine possible value to other groups or individuals in the following order of priority:

  1. Other libraries within the District.

  2. Other District programs.

  3. Students, or parents of students, within the building that is removing the materials.

Teacher librarians will use their discretion to recycle/dispose of items that are outdated, obsolete, racist, sexist, or culturally insensitive.
