The Sioux City Community School District is excited to announce the official launch of "The Kindergarten Experience," a brand-new year-long onboarding series designed for prospective transitional kindergarten and kindergarten families.
Running from September 2026 through May 2027, this interactive journey invites students turning 5-years-old on or before September 15, 2027, and their parents/guardians to explore our public school communities, meet our dedicated educators, and build excitement around an educational milestone.
To build connections with their future teachers and classmates, families should attend all events at their child’s designated boundary school.
Participating students will receive an official physical passport book at their first event. At each quarterly event families attend, students earn a unique passport stamp and an event "souvenir."
The Four Quarterly Events Include:
Building Exploration & Tour: During this event, families will gather in their school’s media center to receive official passport books, enjoy a brief welcome presentation from staff, and take a guided tour of the building, concluding with playground playtime.
Re/Max Movie Night: Family movie nights generously sponsored by The Carlson Group will run from October-December 2027 at the Re/Max Center (712 4th Street). Doors open at 5:30 PM. Due to limited seating, attendance is restricted to one parent/guardian per incoming kindergartener.
Half-Day Classroom Immersion: During a hands-on half-day on March 5, 2027, incoming kindergarteners will experience real classroom learning time, meet teachers and peers, and enjoy a nutritious snack prepared by the District's food service team.
Choice Day Celebration: At the final spring destination, families will officially complete their passports, register with their school, and celebrate the start of their kindergarten adventure!
